Advantage:

Advantages and disadvantages of MgO varistors
The main manufacturer is Fuji Electric in Japan, which also doped MgO in ZnO. This kind of varistor accounts for a very small proportion in the industry.
Advantage:
A. The voltage gradient performance is better, the field strength rises, up to 660V/mm, and has better flow capacity.
B. The leakage current is about 9.5μA, which is higher than that of ZnOVaristor, but within the limit value of 20μA.
Shortcoming:
A.The manufacturing cost is 3 to 5 times higher, and the qualified rate of finished products is low.
B.Adding MgO will form a sharp crystal of MgAl2O4, which will increase the resistivity of the ceramic body
