How does the power type NTC thermistor suppress the surge current?

 

The working principle is: when the power switch is turned on, the NTC thermistor is in a cold state, and the resistance value is large, which can effectively suppress the surge pulse current flowing through the resistor body. Under the dual effects of the surge pulse current and the working current, the NTC thermistor The temperature of the thermistor will rise, and due to its own negative temperature coefficient characteristics, the resistance value will drop sharply as the temperature rises. Under the steady state load current, its resistance value will be very small, only about 1/20~1/50 of that under the cold state, the limiting effect on the current will be small, the power consumption will be very small, and it will not affect the whole power supply s efficiency. Therefore, the use of power NTC thermistors in the power circuit is the easiest and most effective measure to suppress the startup surge current and protect electronic equipment from damage.
